So I'm going to be trying out some new slug traps I bought this year in the garden.
They're called the Oregon slug trap.
They're white and have pegs on the bottom molded in to secure them to the ground.
They also have hinged lids to make dumping and filling easier.
Google says that any lager beer is the best.
But I'm not an alcohol drinker.
Not to turn this political but I do not intend to buy Bud Light even if it's the cheapest.
So what is the cheapest lager beer I can buy for my slug traps here in the Soldotna area?

I took two yogurt cups, buried one flush the ground and filled it with beer. The other was inverted as a roof with a small door. I use any beer left behind by guests since I can't drink beer.

No beer in my house or my boat so none left behind.
I guess I'll just head to a local liquor store and ask for the cheapest beer they've got.
Honestly don't even know what beer cost these days so that's why I'm asking.

I quit drinking 5 years ago. Bud light is not going to be the cheapest. Raineer or Pabst probably work fine.

One thing that we do is put copper all around the bed. We have raised beds that are perimeter guarded with hammered flat copper tubing. They don’t want to crawl across it.

Don't buy Bud Lite. It's being boycotted due to the wokeness they have embraced.

From what I hear Bud Light in some areas is very cheap. Due to the adage of go woke go broke and the boycott. Due to that in some areas Bud Light is very cheap.
They've been having trouble selling it and I heard that in some areas of the country they are giving away a coupon for $20 off of Bud Light in an area where it cost $19.98.
Trying to get it off store shelves before it expires.
Due to my own personal reasons I don't want to buy their product though at this time, due to the reason stated above, it may be the cheapest.
But thanks for the suggestions on the other brands.
I was kind of hoping someone locally might let me know which store is cheaper than others.
But I guess an extra Buck or two really isn't that big a deal.
I've got some copper strip we are going to be putting around the raised beds as well.
But the back of one of my raised beds butts up to a hillside so I didn't put a board across the back.
I know I know I'm kicking myself for not doing it now but at the time it was a significant enough cost savings to forego doing it.
And I really don't want to have to dig a trench and put it in now especially since I just got the garden planted.
Not sure if the slugs will come from that side or not though.

You might try experimenting with different liquids. Maybe some honey, molasses, or other sweet liquid mix.
I found this mixture: 1 tablespoon (15 ml.) yeast 1 tablespoon (15 ml.) flour 1 tablespoon (15 ml.) sugar 1 cup (237 ml.) water.

Stopped by a local liquor store today and they told me steel reserve is the most common beer they sell for this purpose.
It is a beer made by the Miller brewing company.
So I picked up a six pack of this beer.
I killed my first slug yesterday so hopefully these slug traps will help kill a few more.

Rock salt works good too. Slugs won't cross a line of rock salt in your garden.

I don't want salt in my garden and salt will eventually get diluted by the rain just like the slug killer pellets do!
This is beer traps have roofs that will shed the rain and hopefully keep them working longer.

You will need to change out the beer frequently as it will turn, smell god awful and grow a fungus that the slugs can float safely on.

I use these traps to catch slugs and pill bugs. It works but is not a set it and forget it solution.

The ones I have are white.
Manufacturer says the white ones will hold the beer the longest before it evaporates.
And they recommend changing the beer every 4 days or so.
I understand it's not a set it and forget it solution and it's not an end-all for all of my slug issues.
But anything helps. And it's fairly inexpensive and easy to do these slug traps filled with beer.

Just wanted to warn about the smell really, I left some with beer in them while out of state and when I returned to the greenhouse it smelled to high hell.

You should buy several varieties. 12 packs. I will volunteer to give them a taste test. I'm not saying I know anything about the beer preference of slugs, but I can tell you which ones I like, after extensive testing of course.

Well thanks for the heads up we'll keep that in mind.
I haven't had major slug problems in the greenhouse. (Knock on wood).
It's mainly the outside raised beds that get hit the hardest.
But my greenhouse only grows tomatoes peppers and cucumbers.
The slugs really seem to like my lettuce cabbages and similar plants.

I'm assuming you're going to taste test them after they sat for a couple days in the slug traps?
The dead slugs in your beer might not be all that appetizing though! 😆
