So are you aloud to build a tree stand any time during the year?
Someone told me you can't bring stuff in during the winter!

I want to get my kids in on sitting in a stand and seeing bears close up, so I thought I'd start trying to build one like I did down south for deer only make big enough for two.

Thanks

It's best to call the Fish and Wildlife troopers and pose your questions.

I have built two stands in the winter and was told by Troopers that it was no problem. Just NO bait until baiting season opens.

read the section "other improvements and structures on state land"

these are general rules for most AK state land (except special mgmt. areas such as state parks, recreation areas, etc.)

these rules do not apply on federal land.

basically, as long as what you build can be dismantled and removed easily (i.e. no cabins) then you are good to go.

however, if you set it up in an area that others are familiar with, it may just disappear, so best make friends with the locals.

I just spoke with Fish and Game about this very subject last Friday. You are good to go with setting up your bait station prior to the baiting season; you just can’t put anything in the area that may attract a bear to the site.
I even asked about an area I hunt that is established to the point that bears check the area prior to it having a bait station setup. They were a bit concerned about that, since it may appear that I could have put scent in the area and recommended I contact the local officer prior to setting out my gear. I did and they gave me the green flag to go for it.
Tree Stands: On this one you really need to know the area. Andweav’s comments are spot on with the feedback I got from both officers I spoke with.
