I'm headed out with my family to Seward in a couple days and I'm really wanting to be able to wet a line if possible. We will be staying in town but most likely taking the drive out to Homer also. Is there any fishing this time of year from the beach or docks around Seward? If so any recomendations? Don't really care what I catch just wanting to wet a line mostly, thanks.

Teacher,

Yes, there are fish to be had. Like mentioned above, "double ugly" or Irish Lords are available. Perhaps not in any great numbers but a few will be around. Also add flounder and sole to the list, as well as cod. As with a lot of the marine species up here, they migrate into deep water in fall and during the winter months so casting from the beach is largely hit and miss. Locate a spot that allows you to fish relatively deeper water, such as next to the aquarium or the stretch of beach after the waterfall. March is early but not too early; April can be excellent at times as fish move back into the shallows and readily available from shore. In my experience, bait (herring) fishes better than jigs this time of year.

Good luck!

Sounds great, I fished Homer this last fall and caught tons of cod from the beach figured it would be fun if I could get some fish out at Seward since I'm heading out that way. Any Salmon???

Short supply of salmon casting from the beach this time of year. Might get lucky and tie into a feeder, though, you just never know. However, come about mid-April, there will definitely be a few kings swimming along the shoreline in Seward chasing those herring into the bay. Even seen a few kings in the harbor itself, right in town.
