Bait station triple!!!

Sat the bait last night with my wife and oldest boy. My wife was able to connect on her first animal ever. A small black bear boar came in and got smoked with the 243! Couple hours later s boar and sow grizzly came in. My 416 laid the 9’ grizzly out and he died six steps from my wife’s black bear. The sow grizzly went back to the bait and my oldest boy but lead into her. Shot wasn’t all we had hoped and perhaps excitement or failing light we were unable to recover her. Light blood trail straight uphill and several hundred yards back into the woods we finally lost it. Exciting night, wife’s first bear, my biggest grizz, sons first

crack at a grizzly. What a day. So blessed.

I had a hunting partner do the same thing a few years back. I figured a grazing shot. We couldnt any sign after few hundred yards. Heading uphill is not serious usually.. all bears that died ran downhill. Their hair in different lengths from different angles makes judging shots tough....

Good job. Was that grizzly the same one as in the trail camera photos? Didn't you have the sow & boar in one of the photos? How was the hide? How does he compare to the bears you've taken on Kodiak? 9'er-----That's a stud.

Ya he’s been on camera a handful of times with his cheap date. He’s right at 9’, skull just shy of 26” it looks like. Had a big runnon his upper neck. Which is fine I don’t want the hide anyway. But his skull is sweet!

Solly, that's a "truism." My client's brown ran 25 yards or so level, then charged up a 10 yard, 45* slope, and died at the top. They seek cover, first. No major bones were broken, so it had the physical strength and ability to move uphill, as well as the will.

Nice! It's been a helluva year for ya! Glad to see the comeback! I'm sure your late wife would be happy and proud of you and your kids. And I'm glad to have a few less moose munchers roaming the woods. Don't sweat the loss. I hate to admit it, but I've lost quite a few bears over the years. It's more common than people think. Easy to lose the blood trail with all that thick fur and they can go a long ways on adrenaline. Anyone who doesn't understand that simply hasn't shot enough bears or else they are extremely lucky. That's why I don't stop shooting until the bear stops moving. And I agree that skull is gonna be awesome!

We had blood for about three hundred yards and the bear wasn’t hitting thick cover or bedding down, straight line travel thru open country the blood finally ran out or the skeeters had sucked it all off the ground. Over 20 years with clients is about 1 outa 10 bears hit have been lost. So roughly about 18 outa the last 180.
It’s been a great spring, I think it’s about over. Bait hasn’t been hit in over a week, gonna pull it next week and wait till end of July and start sitting salmon streams and see what we can do then.

I lost a black bear last weekend. I hit it good, and it took off bawling. I waited 10 minutes and begin following a copious blood trail. My sons showed up at the site and we worked together following the trail which showed greater blood flow as he went along. Several places where he laid down. I figured it was a done deal. about 300 yards later we got to a place where there was torn up earth and three great big patches of blood, but no bear! We separated and made concentric searches for another blood trail, but after about an hour we found nothing. Not one trace! Not ready to give up, we flanked the original trail thinking the bear had doubled back on us, but nada. We finally had to bag it as we came to the conclusion that the black bear had died, quit pumping blood, and had been snatched by one of the brownies we've been dealing with all season. Pretty disappointing. Hated not getting that bear, nice one too.
