I am getting the pike itch, while I was setting in the fishing room and came up with this tie. I have had this EP Fiber for a long time and have only used it a few times to figure it out, but these are by far the best flies I have tied with this material. Hope I can coax some nice pike with these guys.

How do you guys like the coloring, I don't do many ties like this and would like some feed back. Thanks.

Larry

I like it... I really like the one with red in the throat but I would put a stinger hook back about half way for the short strikes. Very nice.

Here's some Fire Tiger!

Stinger hook noted, tried to put one on after the fact and didn't work well. Thanks for the tip George.

Here I tie a piece of Spiderwire for my stinger hook

IMG_3636.jpg

Then I start my mono, you don't wrap to far back, about a 1/4"... more is not necessary

Then high tie the EP (or subsitute) alternating between the top and bottom of the shank

Add some gills, if you want to

High tie chartreuse once you feel like you have enough white on top

IMG_3641.jpg

Keep adding high ties alternating between the top and bottom of the shank until you are close to the eye and tie off.

Trim the fibers to your preferred shape

Add color/markings, EYES! and the stinger hook (optional)

George, I like the stinger for the fact that it might result in more hook ups, but my fingers hate it, LOL

Very nice indeed! Following George's line of reasoning though, I'd be sure to make some 8-10" long and include the stinger about half way back. If you watch pike hitting larger prey, they often end up sideways in their mouth. And bigger pike respond faster (and harder!) to bigger offerings in my experience. :D

I have a fishing room too... I call it my 'hobby room' though.
There's not much more than a man could ask for.

(Well, except maybe the family that moved out, freeing up that room. But I digress. :shot:)

Sweet looking pike flies. The water wolves are going to have fun with it. Tight lines.

I'd switch the Spiderwire to a Powerflex wire tippet loop. I'll even use the wire to tie Dali Llamas hook loops. My reasoning for that is salt and/or silt play havok with braids. As long as the wire is either stainless steel or the coating doesn't get damaged, the wire loop will outlast the tie.

I like to use Toothy Critter for my stinger hooks (It's pretty inexpensive and gets good motion). I also pre tie a length of Toothy Critter to the eye and put a loop on it for easy interchange with a wire leader.
