I want to replace the stock Dunlops on my Kodiak 400 with more aggressive tread mudder type tires, which would really help in the area I wheel in. Don't want to spend any more then is necessary and would like to keep the stock size. Any thoughts on what and where to get here in Anchorage? Had some ITPs on my old Suzuki a while back. Thanks

I've been running 26" ITP 589's for 2 years now. These are so much better then the ITP Blackwater XT's I had b4. Not sure what vintage of Kodiak your running though. I have a 1996. 27" tires worked my engine too much. The 26" tires gave me back the mud slinging-ability.
I am normally riding around Chicken or in bogs like the Rex Trail. Chicken is just about all hard packed trails with lots of rock. The ITP 589's have performed great in the mud and on rock. Vary smooth tire.

I am currently running Swamp Witch tires on my 6x6 and absolutely love them. The advantage over the 589's is that they have some tread that wraps around the sidewall to help climb out of ruts. Everyone is sold on how good the Mud Lites are, but I think just about any of the aftermarket deep lug tires will be a drastic improvement over stock. Here's a pic of my tires -

I ended up getting them through a friend who is neighbors with the guy that runs TCI (BIG distributor in Alaska). He was able to throw them on one of his regular shipments and saved me the shipping costs. A Google search will give you several places to order them through, or maybe go talk with TCI (in Anchorage) and see what he would charge. I think my total was around $380 or so for 6 of em, but that was after pulling some strings.

I just bought a set of ITP Mud Lites for wifes AC 500 and simply love'em. They are aggresive enough yet soft and ride very well.
I have ITP 589's on my 03 AC 500 and they are very stiff. They do give your arms a workout over a long trip.

I'll second the Mudlites but if your a hardcore mud rider I would look at something a little more aggressive. I don't ride lots of mud so the Lites work great for me as well.

The swamp witches & HL MST's are a great set of all around tires. The MST's really took me by surprise with their performance at Pinochle.
I am sure either one of those two or mud lites will do exactly what you would like them to do. Unless more mud than solid ground is in order I couldnt see most people buying EDL's, Zillas, or Outlaws. the rest will leave a smile on your face.

I'm running Mud Bugs on my AC 500 auto and they are an awesome tire. Almost as light as Mud Lites, but a much harder longer lasting compound. They are pretty smooth riding once you get goind. I actually poked a hole in an aluminum rim (from the inside) and rode out 12 miles on one of these tires FLAT and it didn't do a bit of damage.
