I know..here we go. But I did hear from a source today that they are going to be getting some Armored vehicles soon. Anyone heard anything on this or care to shed a light or theory to it? If they do...wont be easy to hide them or move them without being seen.

Even then..I think questions will be in order.

Interesting news to say the least..the Source is not one to bend stories, solid citizen and character.

I saw it on Ch. 2 News. Up-armored Super Duty trucks, OD in color One here in Soldotna, one in FBX and one in Anchorage, I think.
The military flavor of them makes me very uneasy. I'm betting the funding came from DC.
Armored vehicles for AST, but the poor VPSOs get nothing with which to protect themselves except a few shotguns for animals.

Don’t forget the pepper spray. Ain’t that stupid and even racist, stick a VPSO in a village full of guns houres or days away from backup with a uniform and pepper spray and expect them to do anything. In my small world view if they can’t be trusted with a sidearm they shouldn’t be trusted with a badge ether.

This whole notion of the militarization of the police makes me queasy.

Maybe it's my age....but I have a hard time seeing the need for a cop with a rifle, much less an armored transport.

Haven't heard a good explanation for what you would do with one.... at least a realistic explanation at any rate.

Most every fair size city in the lower 48 have had them for years.Mostly for drug compounds and gang club houses.Probably put a couple in Anchorage area and Fairbanks.S.E. troopers have the fastest boats so they can get away quick.

When the Troopers get up armored SUSVS, I'll start to get worried. MRAPs? Not so much. Talk about improper vehicles for the job up here.

Yup, the first APC showed up in Phoenix about 1990, Sheriff Joe got one from a surplus auction. Everyone howled even the Phoenix Police but it wasn’t long before they found a lot of handy things to do with it down there for high risk warrants and standoffs. It’s not them having the tools but what they will use them for and who decides that with me. Armored vehicles doesn’t bother me any more then the vests they have on, armored is defense. Now armed, as in a tank, machinegun platform, or even water cannon sure would, that is offence, something more than getting people home after a shift.

Sounds better that they have their own vehicles than trying to make do by borrowing dump trucks or other agencies armored vehicles when they run into these situations. Like others have said, they are designed for defense, not offense. It is a way to keep the officers safer when they are in certain situations.

yes we need to make sure they are safe when they come to kick down your door and confiscate all your " assault weapons ", I wonder if they will be wearing blue helmets?

I'm not sure that the equipment used by our State Troopers is related to an individual's right to keep and bear arms as protected by the Second Amendment. Maybe discussion of this topic is better suited for a different forum.

Good for them. They have been using various Armored Vehicles in the cop world for several years now. Great tool for dealing with hostile situations instead of hiding behind a tree and peeking around the corner to gather intel, or setting up a command center in a not so urban environment. Those rolling RV Command centers are limited to where they can go and what they will take. The worlds a changing and I have a funny feeling the near future is gonna get a little ugly before it gets better.
