Where did the Archives go from the old forum , I tried to find a post from the old archives and you can no longer search them. It says that you can search them via the new forum search feature but that only goes back to June 2006?

Searching the archives

Searching the archives

Where did the Archives go from the old forum , I tried to find a post from the old archives and you can no longer search them. It says that you can search them via the new forum search feature but that only goes back to June 2006?

If you take the "Old Forums" link at the top of this page, you'll come to the old forums home page. Near the bottom of that is a search box. That allows you to search both old and new forums.

Try it...I think it works pretty well. There are thousands of pages indexed there.

The search at the top of these forums takes you only to the current forum pages.

David that feature you speak of only entails the posts on the new forum. Try it.

Hmmmm....I have tried it many times, and get responses from both old and new. It is possible that the item you search is not Google indexed. Try searching for other topics to see if it is working. If it is for sure not working, let me know more.

Thanks, cub.....David

No workie David. I tried all kinds of topics and it only lets you see posts from the new forum. It used to work but hasn't for some time now.

Bizarre. Just to be sure:

1. You followed the link at the top of all new forum pages "Old Forums" and you arrived at http://www.outdoorsdirectory.com/akforum/
2. You went about half way down that page where it says "Alaska Outdoors Supersite Forum Search" and wrote your search terms over the top of the box where it says in light gray text "Google Custom Search".

If that's not where you are going, what is the URL of the page where you are searching?

Thanks....David

Thats exactly what I am doing David, but it brings up all the topics and posts from the new forum nothing from the old. This is an example I typed Peninsula Bears and this is the page it pulls up

http://www.outdoorsdirectory.com/se...scoe&q=Peninsula+bears&sa=Search&cof=FORID:10

These are all posts from the new forum. Theres not one item from the old forum.I tried several topics and all the posts are from the new ODD.

Here's what I get...

Here's what I get...

Here is part of what I get from http://www.outdoorsdirectory.com/se...scoe&q=Peninsula+bears&sa=Search&cof=FORID:10

The first listing below is from the old, the second from the new, third from old and so forth. If the url starts with www.outdoorsdirectory.com it is old forum. New forum material starts with forums.outdoorsdirectory.com

Are you seeing something different than this?

Yes I see what your saying but it doesn't work just right. For example if you type "sheep gear" it gives you 10 pages of stuff from the new forum with only 2 lthreads out of the 10 pages from the old forum and they are from the page that is visible if you click on the old hunting forum. Nothing from the past few years. Does the archives only go back through 2006? Thats as far back a post as I can find.

I think I see what's happening, and I think I know how to fix it.

Unfortunately, until Google re-indexes those pages, we don't have any good way to get into the old archives. The old search function was very "heavy" on database use, and we couldn't support it, the new forums and the store all at the same time.

Thanks much for hanging with me on this to get to the bottom of it.

We have already started addressing this. If you go to the old forums home page, and scroll to the bottom, you'll find a list of the monthly pages for the hunting forum. We'll do the same with the other forums in coming days.

My sense is that Google and Yahoo! need a list of these pages. I'm not sure there is another good link to them. And this is a high value page (Google ranks it PR5) so it should be spidered fairly quickly. It will be interesting to see if missing posts start to show up again.

Thanks again for the heads up on this.

Good deal, I was doing a search for the Meindl and Lowa boots and I knew there was old posts about these from the last couple years and couldn't bring anything up, thats what got me spinning.

The archives seem to now be accessible again. We provided a "bread crumb trail" for the Google spider to follow, and it re-indexed most of the pages. We lost some of it, I suspect, but I think we're cooking again.
