I'm thinking about selling my boat but I'm not sure what it's worth. I blue-booked it and the number was appallingly low--under 1,000.

Based on similar boats I see for sale I was thinking in the 7-7500 range but I don't know for sure.

Is there a credible appraiser I can contact to start this process right?

It's worth whatever someone will pay for it. After 10 years the blue book has little relevance for boats.

Post a free ad on craigslist for $7,500 and see what happens.

I had the same situation with a camper I was selling, blue book was $2200 and I put an ad on Craigslist for $8500 and it sold to the first guy who came and looked at it. I would put an ad on Craigslist before I went to the trouble of getting it appraised. If someone wants an appraisal have them pay to get it done.

I don't think so. At this point, you're not really listing it for sale...just asking opinions about the value and/or asking price (that's all I was suggesting/vounteering to help with). Even if you do decide to sell it, you can do that on here through the swap and sell section and it's a pretty minimal fee if it sells through here (but I don't know that rule off the top of my head).
