I just aquired an AMPAC inflatable boat similar to a zodiac and can't find any information on it. Its about 10-12 ft. long and is rated for 15 HP max and 1100 lbs.
It doesn't have an outboard, so I am looking into what would be the best setup for it. I've never owned a boat like this so I don't know much.
Anyone have any info that would be useful to know?

What are you planning on using it for? If you don't plan on flying out anywhere take a long, hard look at the tohatsu 4 strokes. I used a 9.8 tohatsu last spring and was very impressed with it. Very smooth and quiet.

I was planning on using it just to putt around Resurrection or Valdez. Maybe something to use to get to shore off of my Uncle's seining boat. I was also wondering if a 15HP would be overkill due to it matching the maximum rating of the boat. I always figured more power is better as long as it doesnt weight too much for the boat..??
So you wouldn't recommend the Tohatsu for flying in somewhere due to weight concerns? Where is the Tohatsu made?

Tohatsu motors are manufactured in Japan I believe. I have a small inflatable rated for a 15 and the 9.8 was more than enough for it. I have an inflatable floor and it would start to buckle. With a solid floor, I suspect it would not be an issue. The 15 hp is 115 pounds or so and the 9.8 is like 87 pounds. With the 4 strokes you have to be careful lying them on their sides. Oil can and will leak into the cylinders. Man they sure are quiet.
