Maybe its just me, but there seems to be little posting or info concerning Alaskan elk. I'm intrigued by these big guys. It seems to me that they are somewhere in between a moose and a big caribou so they get lost in the mix.

Anyone with an '06 hunt planned? Any pics or stories to relate?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

I miss elk hunting . I have taken two when I lived in Oregon both with my bow .
I have looked into the hunts on Afognak more than once but it seems that you have do do a lot of hoop jumping to be able to hunt on the Island , permits and then getting permission and or pay to hunt certain parts of the land .
Maybe I am wrong .
I would love to hunt them !!!!!

Seems like a lots of $$$ to hunt for Elk with such small horns, I read a story about F&G doing a study on why ?, Habitat, food, minerals, or genetics. For less money I hunt WA. and ID. but I have relatives to stay and hunt with, maybe I'll do an AK elk hunt, but its low on my desire list, got to get a sheep first!

Agree. You can do a elk hunt for half the price in the lower 48.

Anytime you guy's want to kill elk come on down to Idaho. I've got a cabin to stay at and I'll point you in the right direction. Maybe we could "trade a hunt". That's to say in less the wolves get em all (

Hunt 0601,
I would like to take you up on that offer hopefully in 08. Next year my time off is already taken between family coming up & going fishing & in fall I have to take the wife on her 1st float trip in addition to trying to squeeze another goat trip in. However if you are ever up here we always have an extra room.
Otherwise as you said we can trade hunts sometime.
4 yrs till the wife can retire from her first career & I am thinking in another 5 or so after that it would be nice to move somewhere that has big & small game hunting that can be done as weekend hunts. Hopefully by then Fullkrul will have it all dialed in & we can move down to the Idahofalls area & not miss a beat :)

trade a hunt?

trade a hunt?

If anyone is ever interested I elk hunt every year out west, my success has been 75% on bulls, most with bow. I hunt public land DIY and tags have to be drawn. If you draw a great tag you can have an unbelievable hunt (like sheep in AK). I have access to tags if you fail to draw.

I would consider swapping a hunt for a hunt a NR can do in AK, bou or moose.

I mostly bowhunt but occasionally muzzleloader or rifle.

Just a thought. I can provide camp, food, info, maps, pointers and get you started etc. You basically would hunt with me. You will be into elk.
