Since no one has mentioned this new project yet...

Sounds like Ruger and Hornady are building a new cartridge, which appears to be very similar to the 375 Epstein without a belt (basically an unbelted 300 Win Mag necked to .375"). Should be interesting with Hornady's proprietary powders like used in their Light Magnum and Heavy Magnum lines. A standard length action with near H&H performance.

Didnt Hornady already do this? 376 Steyr, joint effort of hornady and Steyr Rifles. Fits a standard action, uses a .375 projectile, almost equals the H&H. It was never a really big hit because of the lack rifles (Steyr not being really popular here in the US).

It would be much easier for them to build the .375 Taylor (.338-375), much like Federal called the .338-08 ".338 Federal." Even reloading data for these has been available for years.

This new round is getting quite a bit of discussion. While no dimensions of the round have been formally released by Ruger or Hornady, I've heard that the case is an entirely new design. While the belted mag case is nominally 0.511" at the head with a 0.532" belt and rim, the new Ruger/Hornady round is 0.532" at the head and rim, thus a rimless round. This falls midway between the belted case, and the RUM case which is 0.550" at the head with a rebated 0.532" rim.

So long as Ruger doesn't make the rifles too heavy, it should be a winner!

would certainly be a welcome addition to the array of 375's out there.

From the images I have seen it does appear as Paul and other have mentioned, a 30-06 length, beltless, magnum capacity case. Specificly a "standard .532" bolt head" and the rim does not appear to be rebated at all. If so, that would make it a .532" body and give it greater capacity than the 300 WM case, the 375 H&H case, or the 375 weatherby, but less than the 375 RUM and the 378 Wby. That is great. A little more punch than the H&H in a more compact package. The published ballistics, subject to change of course, give the 300 grain bullet 2700 fps bettering the H&H by 150 fps. That should help with those stretching shots with the 375. I like it already. I hope the install a 30 degree shoulder. Anything sharper will test smooth feeding.

I made a 375 on the 9.3x64 case some years ago and also a 338. I liked them, mainly because they was beltless and offered good performance. I tried to interest a couple of gunmakers in the idea but failed. The 376 Steyr was a shortened version of that 9.3 case, and it too is a good one but odd in size, fitting halfway between the 308 and 30-06 in length but with a little fatter body of .495". This new Ruger is fatter but less so than the Ultra, so may offer greater magazine capacity than the 404 Jeffery based cases do.
Anyway, it shows a lot of promise and I hope it is as we've seen, in it's final form. Ruger has (hopefully) done what many have wanted for a long while, built a beltless magnum caliber in the 30-06 length. This case would lend it's self to easy necking up and down for subsequent calibers from about .308" to .423" or at the least a good .338" and maybe a .366". Wouldn't that be nice?

I do hope that Ruger doesn't make the rifle with such a heavy barrel we'll need to hire a porter. I think most makers of the H&H make rifles that are too heavy. A bare rifle of 8 pounds is about right. After a scope, sling and ammo, it would be a very shootable rifle. I believe I'll try one. Good shootin'.

I'm a lefty too, know folks at Ruger, and have done everything but bleed on their floor for more lefties. In fact they had 9 in their shop for something like ten years before they finally released the model to the public. Quote---"Why should we release them, when we don't have the production capacity to keep up with demand for righthanded 77's?" I had hoped that would change when they finally did start the left handed line, but that was a wind suck.

I'm betting the closest will be a release in the #1 Tropical. Best bet I can see for a leftie is CZ right now. As the "new kid" on the block, they are a little hungrier. I picked up their leftie 22 American, and it is a SWEET rifle, in spite of a creepy trigger.

I know this is about the best news from any gun manufacturer in along time- a beltless .375 with a .532 case head! I know I am justified fully in looking to seperate myself from my 375 RUM - I like the round just not completely content with the Rem design.

Now do I await to use my FN 98 and rebarrel or look for a donor? Have to fly in and look at the next gun show and see what I can pick up. Another project-isn't this fun?! Who I wonder will have a reamer? or how soon?

I think the best bet for us south paws will be the montana 1999 barrelled action as they have the best calibre selection for lefties and I'm sure they'll add this new 375 ruger to their line, I worked an action to one of these the other day and man was it smooth!!! CZ discontinued their lefty selection about a year after it came out for some reason so I'm looking at the montana 1999.

I had picked up a Ruger stainless 338WM as a donor for a 375/338 conversion but put this on hold when I discovered the donor 338WM shot too pleasingly well. I've been stuck deciding on which direction to go on the 375/338. This appears to be my answer!! It sounds like the perfect ticket and may make my previous 375/338 obsolete!!

I had the opportunity to handle a new Ruger Alaskan .375 today. It feels very nice but I'm sure it is going to be a real thumper at 7 lbs. The African version comes in closer to 8 lbs which will be a little easier on the shoulder.

I have the 375 Ruger and have a letter for a free replacement stock from Houge due to them cracking at the pistol grip. My stock is in the mail, mine is not cracked yet but I started my reloads @ 72.0 of RL 15 with 270 Hornady at 375 HH vel.
