Faster than a .30-06 may be wishful thinking. Dtech has been very successful with the Win short mags and I think he has sold his methods to Oly so hopefully it will be a fine upper for you. Dtech barrels are very good..not sure about Oly's barrels. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.
I don't know which direction the "methods" are traveling, but DTech was using Oly barrels for a long time before he switched to Shilen barrels. He offers a .300 WSSM and I don't know the difference betwen it and the .300 OSSM. I bet that in real life a 125 grain bullet will run with a .308 or 30-06, but I doubt the 150 grain will since it looks like it will intrude in the powder space. The most intriguing round to me that Mike at DTech has is the .358 WSSM.

You may be right...I've only gotten Shillen from him. He used to have some surplus barrels which may have been Oly barrels but I think they are all gone now.
I have had great luck with his 6x45 barrels and I like his work. The 6x45 is a fine round for varmints and deer.
I use an Armalite AR-10 for the heavier stuff so the WSSM uppers for the 15 have never had a great appeal to me. You're right...the .358 WSSM should be a fine gun and with the AR-10 you can have a regular .358 Win or any of the .308 children with less need to seat heavy bullets real deep and the price you pay is about a pound or so depending upon the configuration.
I'm interested in what the real world performance is for the .300 OSSM. A 150 grain at even 2700 is a fine thing!!

The 24" barrel and 1 in 12" twist might get you there. That is a bit heavier than my AR-10's but then I don't run that long a barrel. The best I can get out of 148 gr FMJ is about 2650 with a 16" barrel and Varget but with a 24" and slower powder she will come close to 2900.

The only reason I'd be interested in an AR style rifle for hunting is if it's light. 7lbs or less kind of light. If not, I'll just keep carrying a bolt gun. Frankly a 10# AR-10 has zero appeal to me.
Right now I have the parts figured outfor a less than 7lb (with scope) 7.62x40 wildcat using a lightweight 16" barrel from Wilson Tactical. Big enough cartridge for deer, caribou and blackbears. Light and easy to carry. Slightly faster than a .300 BLK

I guess hauling around 3 extra pounds doesn't bother me like some people. If I needed to worry about weight I have plenty of lightweight rifles I could carry around, but then that defeats the purpose and fun of having an ar-15 hunting rifle

I would love to try a 300 ossm. Even tho it has been around a while it still seems like it isn't that well accepted. Expensive to get started in..........cases or ammo is pretty costly.

Wilson's version of the "whisper" is a fine little round. I chose to follow the 300 Blackout because Remington is backing it and I have had strong customer interest and I figured that is because it has some promise and maybe a future...we'll see how that shakes out. I have a 527 CZ in 223 that I'm thinking about rebarreling to the Blackout and it should come in around 7 pounds but I think I'll stay with a 20" barrel and try to get just a little more speed than the 16". We killed some deer this fall with the Blackout using 110gr and 225gr subs and they were all dead within 30 yds of where they too the round. The sub 225 gr tumbles and tears up a lot of deer meat. I'm guessing the Blackout kills about like my 7 TCU with 110 gr SP but I need some more experience with the Blackout before I would feel totally comfortable using it on a large caribou or blackbear at more that 100 yds. With the right placement it is certainly a capable round. Good luck with your Wilson.
