We've finally got all of the wrinkles ironed out with the spring get together. We faced a few challenges but we're good to go now, here are the details:
First, I want to introduce forum member flyfishgirl ....Her name is Lori and she has agreed to take over coordinating the event as it has proven a bit too much for me to do myself this year....feel free to bug me with any questions, but Lori is the main contact....she can be reached via PM here on the forum of at her work at Marita Sea and Ski....337-2744
Just like last year, the intention is to get folks together to enjoy a BBQ and fun day on the river. You don't need to have a river boat to attend. We'll make sure everyone gets out on the river and has a good time. This is a very kid friendly gathering. Last year proved to be such a good time I'm looking forward to doing it again. We even had a few folks from out of state attend last year! I just hope the weather is that same this year
If you are someone who is looking at getting a river boat, this should prove to be a great opportunity to check a few out on the water. These will all be privately owned boats. There will not be any salesmen trying to talk you into a boat. You can take a ride and shoot the bull with owners.
The date of the gathering is Saturday June 16th.
The location is Susitna Landing, Mile 81.5 Parks Hwy. You'll see a sign on the highway.Take a left at mile 81.5 and go straight for a mile or so and you're there...
The schedule is pretty laid back, BBQ, Run the river, Bonfire....
We will be having a BBQ starting at noon. There will be a few door prizes like last year, and even some stuff for the kids like sand buckets/shovels/frisbees/etc.... The facilities at Susitna Landing are superb. There is a large pavilion area we'll be using for the BBQ. It is near the river with a huge grassy area for the kids to play around. Just show up, say hi, and grab something to eat. There is no charge for anything. This is just an informal gathering of folks on the river....
The BBQ is being sponsored by the folks at Marita Sea & Ski. Although they'll be bringing all of the usual BBQ fixings, please feel free to bring a side dish if you'd like. We had some great side dishes last year! In addition to the typical burgers, hot dogs, salad etc...They'll be roasting a pig too!
After the BBQ, we'll load up the boats and head out on the river for the afternoon. If we have enough folks out there that we require a couple trips, so be it, we'll get everyone out that wants to go cruising for a bit and enjoy the river for an afternoon...
After we get back from the river, we'll have a bon fire in the camp ground and try to polish off the leftovers from lunch and shoot the bull until the wee hours....
Marita has reserved the entire south west loop for folks that want to camp. This is the same loop we had the bon fire in last year. I'll probably be camping in the same spot this year. There are over 20 very nice camp sites reserved for the evenings of Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th. These are very nice camp sites perfect for RV's or tents. Jeff at the landing said that folks are welcome to spend the day on Sunday as well and check out in the evening if you'd like.
If you want to reserve a camp site contact Lori at Marita and she'll take your name and number and put you on the list. Again, there is no charge for the sites, Marita is picking up the tab, so tell her Thanks while you're at it
......
There are electrical/water hookups available but not in the south west loop. You'll have to call the landing directly if you want a site with hookups. Their number is 495-7700
The boat launch fees are not paid for. So anyone bringing their boats will have to pony up $12 to launch your boat. That cost includes the weekend to you won't have to pay each time you put your boat in the water. I sure wish the other boat launches were that affordable
Let's start it off now with a rough head count!
If you plan on attending please chime in....we'd like to get a rough idea on how much food/drink to bring...
I'd also like to get a rough idea of how many boats we'll have....if you're bringing a boat and wouldn't mind taking some folks out on the water please say so....maybe even note what type of boat you'll be bringing in case someone wants to check out that particular boat...
Chime in if I'm forgetting/missing anything.....
I'm looking forward to the 16th, I hope you folks come out and join us....Here's a picture from last year...
