Years ago., we decided to pick the absolute best place to live a self sufficient lifestyle. One that would weather economic and political crisis better than any other. One that would reward residents during "normal" conditions too. We looked at every conceivable criteria we could think of and chose Wrangell. Here are a few reasons why.
(Notice all that beautiful green around Wrangell?)
Volcanology? Same deal. We're better than good there too.
Tsunami? Our biggest tsunami has been indistinct.

The Wrangell Garnet ledge. I mean how many places are there where the children own a mine?
The Stikine river, Shakes hot springs and Shakes glacier.
And of course the Deer, Elk, Moose, Goats, Brown Bears, Black Bears, Wolves, Grouse, Ptarmigan, Hares, Salmon, Halibut, Rockfish, Crabs, Shrimp, Clams everywhere, Mussels, Chitons etc... and the other non-catchables like Elephant Seals, Harbor Seals, Whales, Orcas, Porpoises... all in the same small region.
