    Default Valdez in June/july

What is there to fish there late June to mid July ? How far out of Valdez does one have to go to get into some decent halibut , ling cod , and other bottom fish ?

Most of the charters run 65-80 miles.

Thanks , thatís a long way to go personally in a smaller 22í boat. I Might need to look around there for some action a bit closer to Valdez

There is a lot of good fishing closer to Valdez. If you study the charts well you can find lots of fish in the Port of Valdez.

There are fish closer in and my biggest halibut ever was in the port. I know of one individual that caught a 160lb. In the Arm. You have to fish a little harder. Wait a little longer but the fish are there including ling cod.

Thanks for the reply, Iíll buy a map and do some exploring next June/July . Iím more than happy with halibut in the 40-60lb range . Valdez is such a beautiful spot , Iíve fished from shore a few times but this will be my first year dragging a boat there

Lots of fishing spots within 20 miles. I used to fish a 21í jet boat out to Bligh Reef and Goose Island. Just watch the weather and pick your days. Pinks will also be in. You can always fish Allison Point if the seas are rough.
