  • Painting custom argo cab/flatbed

Anyone have recommendations for an off the shelf self etching paint or products in general for painting aluminum? i built a cab and flatbed combo and i plan on doing a digital camo paint job to cab before i put the glass in.

Prime with zinc chromate and then paint like anything else. Should be able to buy at any marine or aviation supply store.

Great looking work, might want to consider a runner on each side from the top down to the front to protect the windshield from tree branches. Mine takes a pounding and I wish I had something to protect my glass.

Thanks for the info. i have considered the bars to protect the glass i just haven't commeted to a style yet. i am a firm believer of function before form but i don't have alot of brush issues where i go and haven't liked the look of any of the bars i have tried to make.

Take a look at endura paint. It's one of the best

If you want to get really carried away, but durable-

Etch it with Alodine, use a 2 part polyamide epoxy (zinc chromate based), followed by a topcoat of your choice.

should have posted the finished product months ago. I did use the Zinc chromate primer, it worked well.
