  • Trails to good spots?

Just picked up a new side by side. Fits my mining setup perfectly. I also just got a new tent and want to try it out. Any good spots (not looking for your secret spots, just fun spots) to take the side by side to the middle of nowhere, run the dredge, camp out, and find color?

Are you a member of any clubs?
Joining the GPAA will give you access to a few spots.
The state lists the areas open to the public such as in Hope or Caribou Creek in the valley.
Just be sure you are not on an existing mining claim if you venture into unknown territory.
Crow Creek in Girdwood has good gold but no SxS access walk in only.

I'm a member of the GPAA, yes. I'm looking for somewhere more off the grid than Crow Creek, I go there all the time. More wanting to turn it into a camping trip. I'm familiar with all the state sites as well as pay to pan sites. Just need something a little more adventurous! =D

The Petersville Rec Area sounds like it would be a good fit for what you're looking for. Lots of rough dirt roads/trails to test things out. And a great view of Denali on a clear day!

Are there any good maps of the trails out there?

Try the ATV version of this book.
You can buy it and AIH and probably other places.

Here's a link to the PDF the state has for PRMA. The book kasilofchrisn recommends is a good bet. I also like to take printouts of satellite images of the areas I go to. Depending on when the image was taken (newer = more resolution) the trails can be identified using those.
