  • Rock polisher advice

    My wife wants one
    im clueless
    we find a few agates
but mostly she wants to polish "cool" rocks she finds in Kenai beaches
I'm thinking a 6lb unit but I have no idea about media or buying a whole kit or???

Buy the kit, it's painless. Agates are hard and need 2 or 3 different mediums. A tumbler works fine if you are in no hurry. A vibrating unit is much faster.

I find that I like "cool" agates better in the raw. Plain agates are pretty when they get shiny. Have fun!

Buy a lortone kit. A great way to start.
I currently have 3 lortone 33b units. Great machines.
For the other rocks get a hardness test kit.
Only polish stones together of similiar hardness or you will never get them looking right.
I bought my hardness test kit online from Dads rock shop.

Jack of all trades master of none!
No seriously I just have too many hobbies.
I grew up in lake Superior agate country.
I love gold recreational mining and rocks and gemstones goes along with that.
My wife also loves rocks and has a rather large Alaskan agate collection.
Hence I needed to learn how to polish her agates.
I had a tumbler and bought my wife one as a gift.
Then my mother in law gives me one from a yard sale that I repaired and use.
Got some rocks you need polished?
          Bring them over.
