Portable Yurts

I've been researching tons of options for a roomy water proof tents etc for use in PWS this summer and to use as a base camp for moose hunting. Came across this site. Has anyone ever seen or used these. They don't give a wind rating nor snow load. Not really too worried about each as I want room, comfortability and most importantly dry shelter in a cold heavy rain environment.

I don't know about those, but an old fashioned Wall Tent/internal frame a wood stove covered with a tarp or two if needed is great setup. Here's my buddies from one year. Nuthin warms you and dries you out like a wood stove.

I don't know much about yurts, but they look comfy and a substantial weight savings compared to a canvas tent. Don't know much about reliability etc. Interesting shelter idea for a moose hunt where weight wasn't super important.

"Small" stove? I'm all over their website trying to find out what material they're using for the "tent." Yurt and a stove would come in at 27-30 lbs for an 11' one. I'd like to see one. 27+ is kinda pushing the boundaries of good taste for the hunt I'd use it for. Neat idea though and less weight than a 6 man Cabelas guide tent.

tccak71 what kind of stove were you thinking of? If you were thinking wood stove do you think you could put a stove jack in this Yurt. I sure like the looks of the 14' one. But as stated before need heat to dry out.

I'm a cheap sob so I was looking at the Kni-co stoves site per forum member Shapp (same stoves sold at AK Tent & Tarp).

Tent & tarp renamed the Kni-co Packer Jr. the AO 8; same stoves though. Actually cheaper to order directly from Kni-co and have it shipped up then to buy at tent & tarp (at least for the smaller stove).

HOWEVER, I'm no stove expert. I'm trying to find a "reasonable" weight tent to put one in for moose hunting. I don't know why you couldn't put a stove jack in the yurt. Titanium Goat, AK Tent & Tarp and others make jacks.

Maybe a lot of reading, but cut to the pictures and comments that follow. You'll see Shapp's sharp set-up at the end, quite the opposite of a yurt but a sharp, light get-up.

Without ventilation this sounds like massive condensation. On the smaller model it sounds like it only has one door and one window. Don't know how much a stove would help reduce condensation. Guess this would be an issue with all single wall tents.

I have learned my lesson with non vented propane stoves and tents, way too much condensation. I would be concerned that a hot wood stove may damage the plastic supports. They look like a great non heated shelter, just not sure about adding heat to one. I would think an email to them might be beneficial.
