    Field stripping the firing pin/bolt assembly?


    CORRECT.

    It is designed so the rifleman can depress the firing pin into to detent and not launch the thing into his groin, during disassembly.

    That is right. It is just one end of the steel recoil cross bolt.

    Why do many Mauser military rifles have the disc on one side that have a funnel shaped indent? There is actually a specific purpose for the dished out area.

    reinforce recoil lug area. If I remember right that is kinda a square steel crossbolt that takes the place of the wood recoil lug.
