Yes, it would make a very good bear rifle, scope, cartridge combination for a bear or moose or deer. You would not believe how well it handles with the VX-III on top, it is so balanced and I do love this cartridge, rifle and scope combination in a controlled feed rifle that really shoots.

Would this caliber be a good bear stopper as well as a good all-round hunting rifle? I have a Ruger 77 308 and grab it to go deer hunting before I grab my 3006 due to weight, short throw bolt, and overall length (easier to handle with one hand without hitting the ground). Since it would be the same length as the 308, just though it would be a good bear or moose gun as well as other smaller game. Oh, I also have a 35 Whelen, but it is a little heavier to carry around than my 06. Both of those are FN Mauser actions.

I just love how my Ruger M77 Hawkeye 358Win shoots using AA2495. My accurate load is 46.5grs and my hunting load is 47grs which puts me at and over 2400fps. Here is two three shot groups fired to day just to check out my sight-in at 100 yds.

Now I got so excited to shoot this rifle that I forgot to fire my customary three fouling shots and sometimes I shoot six. The top three are the first three fired in a completely clean barrel. The next bottom three were the next three rounds. This rifle just plain shoots and it is out of the box, nothing done to it and I have the scope on max which is 5 power.
