Good morning, I am headed out on a float trip next week with my Dad. We are both coming up from Texas and are wondering about purchasing a shotgun. I used to spend a lot of time in Fairbanks and the law was I had to get an Alaska ID in order to buy a gun. Does anyone know if we will be allowed to buy a shotgun when we get there? Neither of us has a shotgun we want to float the river with so we were considering just buying an inexpensive pawn shop type gun for the float. Thanks

You can buy a long gun, rifle or shotgun, in Alaska, with proper I.D. from your homestate. Be sure your home state allows you to bring it back home if that is your intention. If you pass the NICS background check, usually a phone call that takes a couple of minutes, you can take the gun with you same day. Enjoy your Alaskan visit.
