  • Maud Road range

Anyone hear anything about the Maud Road range being closed for the summer? I heard a 'rumor' that the road was going to be worked on and the whole area would be closed.
    Can anyone confirm this?

There is a press release on the DNR page about this. Here is a direct link to it: http://dnr.alaska.gov/commis/pic/rel...ng%20range.pdf

Looks like it is scheduled to be closed from 4/15 - 7/31.

I just made a run back there, yes the road is open. It looks good for now, and it will be interesting to see how it holds up through the winter.

I went out Friday and shot my AR and pistol. I made a mistake as I wanted to shoot the .338 and sight it in. Well, everyone and their brother that was going caribou hunting stopped in on their way out to shoot. I couldn't believe the amount of people pulling in with trailers packed down for hunting. At least they are checking their guns prior to going out, but I would have made sure I was good to go well before the day before the opener.

Was there on Friday at 11am and there were 9 vehicles in the parking lot.

I am surprised that no one has posted or commented about the closing of the Maud Road range. It was posted tonight that the range was closed until further notice due to the high fire danger!!!!!

I was on my way in last Thursday when the State Forestry stopped me to tell they had shut the range down due to fire danger. I was there that Monday, and surprised it was open then.
