  • Anchorage area rifle range.

New to town, and need to do some long range practice (300-500yds). You guys have any recommendations on where to shoot in the anchorage area?

Birchwood range. 300 yards only. You will have to go to Montana creek range for farther.

Upper Susitna shooters is quite a drive but great place and you can get out to 1k there

Snowshoe inbetween Kenai and Soldotna goes out to 500 and they are buying the land to make it a 1,000 yd range.
But they are a long ways from Anchorage as well.

Snowshoe is now a pain in the butt. You can no longer just buy a pass there and go shoot. Fees went way up, and you have to try and schedule an orientation class and safety training before they will let you become one of them. Back out to the gravel pits for me.

Right side of Parks HWY as you are heading to Talkeetna, about 4 or 5 miles before the turn off.

Wow, didn't think it would be that difficult to find a place to shoot long range up here. Thanks for the info guys.

It's hard for me to accept, but it's the way it is. You'd think with so much public land, there would be numerous Informal Ranges, but nearly every access is covered by "No Shooting" signs.

I read the rules at a Campground, and feel like I'm in a Penal Institution.

I know a guy who used to hunt marmonts up at Hatcher's pass for long range practice.
I may be slow, but I get where I'm going!

Probably going to try birchwood and upper susitna, going to make a day out of both.

Or any body of water, such as a lake or stream. (A bullet striking the ground near the water, can result in silt being splattered into the water habitat, damaging the fragile ecosystem.)
