Sako carbine in .375 H&H and Leupold 2-7x compact...great to carry...not that much fun to shoot...very accurate with 270gr Sierra's.

Sako and Leupold are two of the most respected brands in hunting equipment.Pretty hard to go wrong with this combination.

It's what I hunt with...albeit somewhat customized...and I haven't encountered anything in the last 25+ years that supercedes it.

Back in 1983 I used to have a Sako with a Männlicher stock in .375 H&H. It said Alaska Guide model 1 of 1000 or some such BS on the magazine floor plate. I traded a Jeep for it..
I had a 1-5 Leupold scope mounted on it as well. It was a nice handling rifle, but the stock was too pretty to take out in the woods. In fact the surface of the wood was so soft that it would show marks from folks belt buckles while they were admiring it. I traded it off for something or another...

My carbine came with a full length 2 piece stock in plain jane blond wood and I put it into a B&C stock that I used to hunt and carry it. It also came with a Sako adjustable peep and a set of medium rings and you would loose your dinner if I told you what I paid for it at the Rod and Gun Club, Lajes Field, Azores in '69. I also bought a Deluxe Finnbear in 7mm Rem Mag that I shot one elk with and then put it away. I sold it a few years back and got exactly 10x what I paid for it. Wish I still had the 4 barreled set Superposed I also bought there.

I've got an A5 with the Männlicher stock and factory muzzle ports - man is she a shooter (BOOM!). Doesn't shoot quite as tight as my full size .338 A5, but still very accurate (sub MOA on both of my Sakos). Nothing but great stuff to say about Sakos, except that they're so nice I hate to take 'em out in the woods for fear of beating 'em up. Leuopold VX-3's on both.

talley does not appear to make detachable rings for sakos, same with warne. do you know of a part number?

at GNG they looked it up and said no talleys will fit.

What QR rings did you find?

I recommend the old style sako rings...with the finger tightening knobs and the "stop bump" on the bottom of the rear ring. They come off easy and go right back to zero. You can find them on gunbroker.com ...I've paid $100 to $45 for them, depending on the shape their in.

I have a Sako AV 375 H&H, and a Sako 85 338 Federal, and use these rings on both.
