I show 1109 fps for a 280 grain bullet (RCBS 45-270-SAA) over 19.0 grains of 2400. This was out of my 7.5" barrelled Redhawk. I'd start with 17 grains and work up to 18 or 18.5 maybe.

    Well, I found a pound of 2400.
Now trying to get two loads between 1000 and 1050 fps.
    300 LFNGC
    335 LWNGC
Anyone with a chrony and similar set up have any info?

I bought 8 lbs. of IMR-4227 a couple of years ago just before it was discontinued. I've been very happy with accuracy in the loads I've used it in, but it's worth pointing out that it'll never win any velocity contests. H110/W296 always gives me better velocity, and I still get excellent accuracy.

I probably should've mentioned in my earlier posts that 2400 is a good one for +P loads. This isn't really any surprise--basically any powder that works well for full power .44 magnum will work well for +P .45 Colt.

When I started reloading a short couple years ago , I couldnt find any H4227 and bought some IMR4227 instead I then found I couln't find any loads for My .454 using IMR 4227 ,but there were several around for H4227 ! I called Hodgdon and was told that the powders were now interchangable ! This would only aply to powder that is less than 2years old ! Call them and see ! Kevin

H110 is identical to W296 now, so if you have a Redhawk in .45 Colt you can use the loads in this thread. Understand though--the loads listed in this thread are +P loads that are darn close to, if not firmly within .44 Mag pressures and if fired in a Colt SAA or clone, will destroy it and may tear you up a bit as well. However, in strong guns like the Ruger Redhawk and Blackhawk, H110, W296, Lil' Gun, and H4227 are all good powders.

The classic load which will work in any modern .45 Colt revolver is about 8 grains of Unique with a 250 grain bullet. I much prefer 9 grains of Alliant Power Pistol though. You mention you have Titegroup, which seems to be pretty popular in the .45 Colt since it's supposed to work well in small amounts in large cases. I've never used Titegroup, but Hodgdon has their load data online at http://www.hodgdon.com so you should be able to find something there.

I would figure about 1250 - 1300 fps probably. I have a 310 grain Keith style SWC from a custom mould which according to my chronograph does 1200 fps using 21.0 grains of 296 from my 7.5" Redhawk.
