    Model 1895 Winchester Hunting load experiments:

    New Model 30-06
    It was wet snowing and blowing
    These loads should all be around 2300 fps. All are middle of the road book loads





    220gr Hornady RN

    58.0 gr H-1000

    RP Plated Brass

    CCI-200 primer

    3.230 COL no Crimp.

    Clean Necks, primers semi-flat

    2.0 inch 5 shot group, 3 shots in 0.75inch





    220gr Hornady RN

    54.5 gr RL-19

    RP Plated Brass

    CCI-200 primer

    3.230 COL no Crimp.

    Dirty Necks, primers OK

    1.75 inch 5 shot group, 3 shots touching 1/2 inch



    220gr Hornady RN

    52.0 gr IMR-4831

    RP Plated Brass

    CCI-200 primer

    3.230 COL no Crimp.

    Dirty Necks, primers OK

    1.75inch 5 shot group, 3 shots in one inch, 2 shots same hole

    I also fired some 1960s military match ammo which gave a 2 inch group with 172 grain boat-tails and some Federal 150 grain SPs which gave a 4 inch group.
    All at 100 yards.

    Are you using open sights or a scope? If open sights I'd be happy with 2" groups. Looks like your targeting bears.

          She is a high grade that was a safe queen for the last 20 years. I figure the way things are going I might as well shoot her some. I will add photos, tomorrow.

            I know that feeling. I have recently picked up a 71 from 1937. Deluxe and by all indications unfired. That wasn’t a guarantee but very plausible. Anyway, unfired until I got it.

              52.0 of IMR 4350 with 220 Hornady RN always served me well in 30-06

                I went with RL-19, H-1000 and IMR 4831 because they were lower pressure loads. Even though this 1895 is late 1990s production, I still wonder about the action not liking the high pressure rounds.
