  • Ruger 480 Coming Back...Again???

From the AMERICAN HUNTER (NRA): "The big news for 2014 is the return of the 480 Ruger Super Redhawk (SRH). Plagued with purported sticky extraction since its inception in 2001, the on-again off-again .480 Ruger SRH is back for good now, or so we have been assured."

"...Back now with a 7 1/2 - barrel (like the .454 version), a revised front sight and new chamber dimensions (remember the complaint about the .480 SRH has always been sticky extraction),..."

I believe this is a new "coming out party" from the one 1 1/2 years ago or the one where they came out with the 5 shot or the one where they had a limited run...

Nope. This is the new configuration. They tested the 5-shot cylinder and settled on a six-shot again with different bore dimensions, and a new barrel profile.

Have you seen this gun yet Whit?

Got mine last night! Took it to the range this morning and put 32 rounds through it. I had no extraction problems with my hand loads. 355 gr WNFP GC, 26.5 gr of IMR 4227, CCI 350 primer, and starline cases. When I used the peace of brass (hornaday) that had been fired at the factory to gage my max cartridge over all length it took some force to get it out of the chamber.

Sweet! I do like the stainless better than the old Ruger grey. I wonder why Ruger has redone the front sight the way they are now.

I don't know who distributes them. The local guys couldn't order one for me, but found it on gun broker. The paper work from the factory had a date stamp of March 26 2014, so I believe it was made this year.

Davidsons has these in stock, MSRP is $1079. They can probably be had for less though.

Yeah, Snyd, it's my article. The one I have shoots lights-out. One of the most accurate revolvers I have laid hands upon. Really happy with it.

Does it come in the matte grey like before or just stainless?

The original 480's shot lights out as well, not surprised the new ones also shoot great.

So who do we bug for a 480 toklat?
Those that are successful in Alaska are those who are flexible, and allow the reality of life in Alaska to shape their dreams, vs. trying to force their dreams on the reality of Alaska.

If you have a tenuous grasp of reality, Alaska is not for you.

The Kid. He faked a .44 one for me before Ruger built them. Sure love mine (Toklat) in .454.
