Pretty cut and dried, I am curious if it is possible cut down a Montana stock and have it look factory original. Would probably need to take about an inch off of the length of pull. I have often wondered what went into cutting down synthetic stocks and how they go about mounting a butt pad on it.

Cutting down Kimber Montana?

What I do is tape it real good. and after marking it, I cut it with a chop-saw. Then fit a block of wood to go inside, fit it perfect, then glue/epoxy it in place. Finish the butt on a 4" belt sander, and install new pad. Original pad generally will not fit."Essential......to Prepping for Survival, is to be able to segregate, what you think will happen, from what you hope will happen, from what you fear will happen, from what is happening".

I did this same modification to one of my Kimber Montana's chambered in 243 Ackley Improved. Normal shortening procedures don't work with the Montana, due to it's very thin overall diameter butt stock portion. When I cut mine down, a normal Pachmayer Decelerator pad (small size) would not work. When it was ground down to fit the stock correctly, you ended up getting into the metal mounting portion of the recoil pad. I could not find any pad that would work, except a "Kick Ezee" pad. Reason: it was made entirely of hard plastic and rubber. It works fine, but IMO they don't look as nice as a Pachmayer Decelerator. Hope this helps

Sound like the way to go. A big reason I plan to go w/ the Kimber is to drop weight so it doesn't make much sense to add 1/2lb of extra mass to it if it can be avoided. I plan on getting the wife and I behind the 84M that Alaska_Lanche owns for a range day then decide if we want to add a couple of them to the stable. It seems like I saw a Kimber for sale on the WWG gunbroker page so I imagine you guys are a dealer, is that correct?

We are talking about enough wood to have a solid base for the pad. Maybe 1/2" Deep or at the most 3/4" deep, don't know how that could weigh 1/2 POUND......?"Essential......to Prepping for Survival, is to be able to segregate, what you think will happen, from what you hope will happen, from what you fear will happen, from what is happening".
