  • winchester model 190 - rear sight

this is an older (1960's) .22 tube feed auto.
with the rear sight i am able to adjust elevation by depressing a thumb
type grip and moving the ridged bar forward or back.

i'm at a loss on how to adjust the windage. there does not appear to be
any missing or broken parts. it seems as if the sight is fixed in place

i'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with this rifle

    thanks

What you do is take a hammer and flat face punch and knock the sight sideways in the dove tail. When itís back on target take a center punch and dimple the barrel steel onto the sight to hold it in place.

      Rear sight alignment

A little more detail; Use a brass drift punch and small hammer and tap the sight into place. the dovetail in the barrel should be tight enough to hold the sight in position. If not you can take the sight out of the dovetail slot in the barrel (it will travel easier in one direction. I don't remember which ) then lightly use a Center punch to stipple the flat of the slot. This way you do not mar the barrel.

Before starting to drift that sight, use a few drops of Kroil to lube the dove tail.
