  • Want to mount some iron sites

Looking to add some iron sites to my browning a bolt 06. I want to buy a new scope and raise it up a little bit smother I can use either glass or iron sites. Any recommendations? I'll be in town (ANC) from Christmas Eve until news year Eve and the. Again in feb. Don't mind driving to the valley. But would
    prefer to stay near anchorage.

INstead of a high scope i would highly suggest quick release rings, I have a set of Warne's that I have yet to adjust after a dozen swappings on my 338.

The smith in Chickaloon did the cut and crown and open sights on mine......but I mailed the gun straight to him.

I thought about the quick release but was thinking is need to check my zero? But if that isn't the cases then that might be the thing to do.

Quality rings will repeat zero amazingly well, it is a good idea to check but even with fixed rings it's good to check before you count 100% that it's zeroed. Flippers or detaching are way better than tall rings unless your stock dictates you need totaller rings anyway. Your cheap weld bad ability to find something quickly in the scope trumps how well the rig works with irons.

+1 to detachable rings. Have a 25 year old set of QD Talley's that I wouldn't trade for anything.

This is the way to go. If you have no iron sights on your rifle now, you can mount a ghost ring on the end of a picatinny rail mount http://www.xssights.com/Detail.aspx?...93847&CAT=8534, and epoxy a banded front sight on your muzzle. I did that, and after hundreds and hundreds of rounds it remains intact. http://www.newenglandcustomgun.com/g...ont_Sights.asp
