  • Guide board meeting

Does anyone have information on the guide board meeting in Fairbanks last week, that they can share with those of us who could not attend the meeting in Fairbanks. Thanks !

The seminars (moose, sheep judging, brown bear bowhunting, etc...) were well received and attended. Do you have specific questions?

The minutes to the December 2010 and January 2011 meetings were approved and posted at: http://commerce.state.ak.us/occ/pgui13.htm

The proposed regulation to require salt water marine transporters only to register GMUs was approved. Air transporters are not required to participate at this time.

The Board worked with DNR's Valerie Baxter to come up with better wording for the GMU 9 2 mile buffer zone. A change in the wording for 12 AAC 75.340(d)(7) was approved to be public noticed for testimony by the December (6-8, 2011) Board meeting. "Permanent structure or permanent camp" is proposed to be changed to "legally permitted year round structure."

Thanks again offtherecord, does (year around structure) have a definition? Would a tent qualify as a permitted structure as long as you pay the $1,000 to DNR? Thanks for your help.

I was not part of the subcommittee meeting but DNR staff helped wordsmith it. This language is just to public notice it for public testimony for the December 6-8(?) 2011 Board meeting in Anchorage. I cannot recall whether a tent platform would count or not. There still might be a lot to talk about on this subject.

This map boundary public notice is still open for written comment and could effect (or fail to effect) a lot of guides and land holders: http://notes3.state.ak.us/pn/pubnoti...E/ATT5GX3W.pdf With all of the possible issues that guides are worried about in the DNR concession program it would be a shame to miss a single usable acre just because it is not in a guide use area so please look at these maps.

These GUA boundary changes have been public noticed in time for the Board to possibly take action on them at the March 13-15, 2012 meeting at the UAF Wood Center. Written comments can be accepted until 3/12/12 and oral testimony will be heard Thursday 3/15/12. Quite a few proposed regulation changes should also be public noticed before the March meeting including regulations to simplify hunt records and transporter activity reports.

This is the tentative agenda for the March 13-16, 2012 BGCSB meeting at the UAF Wood Center: http://commerce.state.ak.us/occ/pub/...da_2012_03.pdf Be careful to park in the lower lot next tot the creek and take the free shuttle bus to the Wood Center. The ticket folks do not get spring break. There is no official motel for the meeting but Pike's is popular: http://www.pikeslodge.com/?gclid=CLX...FSUbQgod_QOEPg

Please take a moment to read the many proposed regulation changes that might be adopted there: http://notes4.state.ak.us/pn/pubnoti...c?OpenDocument
