Earlier this week were in the negative10 to 20's for the high, but Thurdsay we were 20 degrees. It is 8:00 am Friday morning and it is 22 degrees.
    Weather History

Snow Depth At Landing Parking Lot:

Last Thursday-Saturday we had about 8" of snow. Yesterday we had another 4" of snow. The lot is being plowed on Friday. Please slow down heading through the gate area.

    Trail Conditions:

2/6 The new snow should make the trails increasingly better. The trails should be in good shape for the Klondike 300 this weekend. Please be courteous to everyone this weekend and share the trails. The Iron Dog starts on Sunday so please be aware that there will be a lot of traffic all weekend.

Yentna Station- No overflow, groomed and marked. 3' packed snow with 2-3 inches of fresh snow and still snowing lightly on Thursday. Low of 0, High of 10 degrees.

2/2 Up to 15 inches of new snow has really made the river nice. Seen some minor overflow coming out by Rootbeer Creek. Russ's Slough is real WET with overflow. The top of the slough also has overflow on the Yentna River.

Started the Poker Run on Saturday at about 8 am and had our cards turned in by 3 pm at Northwoods.

The Shell Creek trail to Shell Lake from Tal View is a no go. About a 1/4 to 1/2 mile up from the confulence with the Skwenta the ice dropped out and left about an impassable hole with deep fast running water. The Iditarod trail to Shell Lake from the Tal area has not yet been established.

The big swamp's have some great snow and a few big drift's. Seen snow depth's to chest deep in places.

The trail from Skwentna to Shell is ok. Some big bumps, some trenches and a little ice making your way thru the woods to Shell Lake.

The shortcut from Tal View/ Iditarod trail to Alexander Creek to Luce's is in and marked.

Heard about some one breaking thru the ice up on Quartz Creek(?) out by Tal View area.

Thanks to all for the great trail marking and the great effort in keeping the trails groomed.

Deshka Landing to Tal Vista/Skwentna is great. The Su is a little bumpy but the Yentna is smooth. A few icy spots remain but there's plenty of snow to make it good whether hauling or playing.

    Lodge Reports:

    Alaska Backcountry Tours-

    McDougall Lodge-

Talvista Lodge- 2/6 Alexander Trail- From Luce's to TalVista- No overflow, groomed and marked entirely. 3' of packed snow with 2-3 inches of fresh snow and it was still snowing lightly on Thursday. Low of 0, High of 10 degrees.

Skwentna Roadhouse to TalVista- No overflow, groomed and marked. 3' packed snow with 2-3 inches of fresh snow and still snowing lightly on Thursday. Low of 0, High of 10 degrees.

1/26 The Tal River Loop has been put in. Take a left 1 1/2 miles up river from Luces. This is an overland trail to the TalVista Lodge via Alexander Lake. The trail is 35 miles from start to the TalVista. It is 4' packed snow and beautiful. Most of the trail is marked, stay in main trail and you won't veer off in the wrong direction. If you come across the landing strip, Kenny Hughes place, stay off strip and respect his trails. This is the halfway point.
Swamp -overland from Skwentna to TalVista is beautiful
River- 2" fresh snow over glare ice
