  • TFR Reminder

Just a friendly reminder there are currently 2 TFRS between Wasilla and Talkeetna.
Also Swan lake fire on the Kenai peninsula.
I did not see one for the Deshka fire but expect it will be posted.

There is now another fire just south of North Fork Road near Diamond Ridge road above Homer. No TFR yet. Some moron was burning his trash in high winds and super dry conditions. Only a couple miles from my house.

PLUS I just heard from the FAA that there is now another fire up by Caribou Lake.

If you don't have any of the foreflight or other programs it can be very difficult to pull up maps of the current TFRs.
I say we keep this thread going as long as we are in this dry weather.

not sure if it will work (technology luddite) but there's a link available

          https://tfr.faa.gov/

Pretty comprehensive info...maybe not too convenient to use in a smartphone while in flight, but good quick reference during pre-flight, with graphics on sectionals.

Should we just do a running TFR thread like we did with the av-gas prices???

Foreflight maps them. So does skyvector in your browser. Or go to the TFR website, and they're mapped as well.

Checking for TFRs is part of any flight planning, so there's no reason anyone should be flying through them.

If someone is incapable of using the internet, there's always flight service, who can read you the NOTAM with all the LAT/LONGS or radials and distances and you can plot it on a chart.

I flew up from Seldovia to Wolf Lake using WingX , itís very easy to use and the TFRís are on the map. The smoke was bad and if the wind isnít clearing your route be prepared for near IFR vis. With almost no forward range, so if you or your plane isnít IFR current be careful.

I use ForeFlight, flew the plane back from Healy River to Wolf Lake this afternoon and the visibility was horrible. Sure hope it rains soon. Be safe out there.
