  • Anyone have Cessna HD nose fork field approval I can reference.

I am going to try for a field approval for a Cessna HD nose fork if I can find a couple previous field approvals I can use as inspiration.

Oddly enough the HD nose fork was already approved for the R models and the military T-41 versions of the C-172. But for some bizarre reason Cessna added those to the C-175 type cert.... WEIRD

So does anyone have a field approval I can read over....?????

Why do you think it'll be a difficult approval? I'd think it'll be simple for a mechanic who's familiar with the current process. An old approval probably wouldn't do you any good.

I just wanted a couple as templates to see how they approached the subject. I have talks with four good IAs who have given me blanks looks and all of whom believe that any field approval is a lost cause from the start...

Respectfully, you can't say they are "good" and say they give blank looks about FA's. An IA who is bad at paperwork is an A&P maybe. That's the difference--handy with paper and pen and working with the Feds….. but I digress.

FA process is different now - Different. Wait is longer I guess but if you know what you are doing its easier in ways. Not near as bad as right after change 13(?) or whatever and we all made it through that. Just find someone who's doing them. Plenty of guys are. It may cost money.

          Good luck.

The FAA inspector in Juneau who certified our kit plane in May told me that he was still successfully processing a good number of FA's. It was my understanding that many were coming from the north. I can pass along his contact info if that would help. I found him to be fine to deal with, of course there are varying opinions and my experience was with an amateur build.

Good news because Homer just went under the Juneau FSDO for some weird reason...

Just talked with Juneau FISDO..... There is light at the end of the tunnel.. Of course they recommended that I obtain a copy of a previously approved 337.

                  Well there is more headway.

Apparently the heavy duty nose fork itself was OPTIONAL on several models of C-172s.
So while it was not mentioned in the parts list for my particular C-172, It was mentioned in the previous model with exactly the same fork set-up.
So instead of saying (Installed Cessna heavy duty nose wheel fork from a C-206) The correct way to word it for the new 337 is ( Installed optional heavy duty nose fork Cessna part # 1243623-2 and nose gear shock strut assembly, as per Cessna 172 parts list and installation diagram 58, page 154.
Then do the tundra tire work sheet and the W&B calc if the tires are larger than 600x6.

I actually have the whole airworthiness file on my plane on my iPad up here. Send me your email to onebadjudge70@yahoo.com and I'll email you the whole file.
