  • Electrical problem Polaris ATV

    Hi All

I have a Polaris 500 that will not charge the battery. Have installed a new battery but continues to loose the charge. Any recommendations where I should look next?

Time to look at the charging circuit. Put a voltmeter on the battery with the machine off and then check it with the machine running. If there is no difference, your charging circuit is the culprit. With the machine running, your voltage should jump up to 13-14vdc.

Stator failure would be my guess.

Is the stator something I can change in the field without special tools

No special tools, but wouldn't be much fun in the field....especially if you are in the middle of a creek.

I have to agree with that, no it's sitting inside the storage shed at the cabin. Thanks I'll start getting the parts ordered

Yes it could be the stator, but first I would check the wiring, the fuse if it has one, and don't forget the charging diode. You can also do a resistance test on the stator to see if it bad before going through all the work of replacing it.
