  • What is your annual utilities?

Just wondering what you are paying for your annual utilities? Oil, gas, electric and trash total. if you are using wood as supplementary, please state it and do you do the work or are you buying.

One place I was looking at is

    4000 in oil
    2000 in electric
    600 in trash
    200 in propane

    total 6800

    How does this compare?

I'm renting a 1500 SQ foot place right now with a on-demand water heater that also supplies the heating system which is base-board heat. I am almost split between gas and electric at 1200 bucks a piece for the yearly average, I do have a gas dryer for laundry though. I don't pay trash, so wouldn't know about that, sorry.

We are having a place built right now with in-floor heat run by a on-demand water system, it'll be just under 2200 SQ, and I'm hoping it wont be much more than we currently pay as in-floor heat is supposed to be pretty efficient. :/ Its been a warm year so far (this last winter was mild) here in Palmer, if we start getting cold again I may supplement with a wood stove in the new place-and I would get my own wood.

It'll help to know where you are looking, as utilities up north will be farrrrrrr more than here in the banana belt.

This is off the top of my head, but for Eagle River

      ~$2000 natural gas
      ~$1500 electricity
      ~$500 trash
      ~$1000 water

      ~$5000

If you're in the a colder part of the state in an older marginally insulated home burning oil for heat, you can spend a fortune on keeping warm.

Part of our high gas bill is due to three teenager that love to take showers until they've drained the hot water heater, and a washing machine that seems to run 24/7. I may be high on the annual cost of gas as we go from a peak of upwards of $250/month for the coldest part of the winter to under $100 in summer when the heat is turned off.

South central natural gas bills are increasing by about 50 percent.

i live off road so my amounts will skew your research. But it'll probably make you feel better.

Oil- about $500 month ($8 gallon)
          water- $110 monyh
          trash-free
electricity-(I'm subsidized but average was $150 put of pocket)
I no longer use propane. To hard to get.

              electricity: ~3kw/day = ~$480/yr
              heating oil: ~200gal/yr = ~$780/yr
              firewood: 2.5-3 cord/year = my labor
              propane: ~80 pounds/year =?/yr
I haul my own water and trash

I'll play. Here are the last 12 months from Soldotna...

                $800 electric
$850 natural gas (all heating, hot water, & cooking)
Free water (pumped right out the ground with some of the above electricity)
Free trash (toss it into back of truck and drop it off at the dump on my way to town about once per month)
Got plenty of wood, which is all free with a little labor, but I burn it in the fire ring out back while enjoying a home brew.
Fuel oil sucks. Would never use it.
Use standard propane cylinders for the BBQ & the Mosquito Magnet. They run about $20 to fill and I go through about 6 per year. Don't use propane for utilities. Far too expensive.
                Winter is Coming...

About $2000 a year for everything. Thousand square foot all electric the city charges for all utilities one bill. Stall at harbor five hundred a year with water, elec extra if wanted. Gas in town 4.09 a gallon for truck. Prices in the S.E. suck, right.
Now left only to be a turd in the forrest and the circle will be complete.Use me as I have used you

Will, gas is more than that here in Seward, $4.45. Another reason I miss Wrangell!

I'll bite for reference to Rural AK.

                      Kotzebue:
                      ~$141/month-Water/Sewer/Trash
                      ~$400/month-heating fuel(averaged)
                      ~$400/month-Electric(averaged)

I won't mention housing costs..but I will say gasoline is cheap(er) at $7.29/gal when compared to last year. HA!
You know your not catching any fish when you start talking about the weather...

Most don't seem bad but the 6800 seems kind of high but it is a 3700 sq ft place. Really want to thank everyone for helping me with the replies
