found these on the walk out to the car this morning. called louise and she went right out to get them before the bugs woke up <grin>.
even though they were just up, it was amazing how many little worms were already in the stems.
probably picked about #4 or so, and after trimming had about 2/3 of that to dry.

I put the dog out to pee after yesterdays thunderboomer rolled through and what to my surprise is right there next to the front porch?

Two perfect Porcini's (I prefer the Italian name).

Not but 5 minutes later they were sauteed in a little butter, minced prociutto and flat parsely. Yummo!

mmmm.

What a score! Here are ours - not as much luck with finding specimens like yours but good sauteed with onions and some spaghetti. These are a great find.

chicken-of-the-woods

found this one today, and an older one that seemed too woody to harvest.
have never tried these, but they are supposed to be good.

one of the "foolproof four"

according to Arora in "mushrooms demystified" the sulphur shelf or chicken-of-the-woods is a prized food fungus, and not easily mistaken for any non-edible species.
i just finished slicing it up for drying, should be a nice addition to stews this winter.

I am reminded of what I told my Dad a few years ago when we were picking morels in Minnesota..."you can eat any mushroom you want.... once"...

have a good trip man,....

Do you guys know of a good website that can help me identify mushrooms up here? I have a yard full of different kinds.

But here is a good link for reading. I highly reccomend this book. Plus a good picture book helps.

Picked 14 more last night, and waiting on more to get above ground.
These mushrooms have really spead out this year making for a good harvest. This is the only spot I could find them growing.
So skunked on the morels this year but this makes up for it.
