  • Rough-in PLUMBING question, OK two questions.

First: I have a floor Joist in exactly the wrong spot, and as a 10" or 14" rough-in toilet is about 3 times what a basic (Read Cheap) toilet cost, I have decided to solve this problem by setting the water closet back into the 2X6 stud wall. It is an Interior wall, so freezing will not be an issue. Is there any problem with this, other than asthectics...???

Second: I don't have a 4 1/2" hole saw bit for fitting the toilet mounting Flange through the floor. Is there any reason this can NOT be installed (the Hole) with a saws-all....?

    Thank You.

I would worry about excess moisture if installing into the 2x6 wall.

    try something like this:

We used a jig saw for our mounting flange hole.

    Happy plumbing...

If you have access under the floor the best way would be to cut some out a section the offending joist and run a headder across to the two adjcent floor joist this would be done on both sides of the cut. There is no reason that the hole can not be cut with a saw as it is not a finished area. If you did not have room to nail the cross peices in place you could use screwes. Good Luck

How close is that joist. They make offset toilet flanges just for this occasion. I could have one in the mail to you tomorrow...$12.99 PM me if interested.

Thanks but, no thanks. The Joist was exactly 12 1/2" from the 2X6 Stud wall.
Update I just drilled it with my biggest hole drill 4 1/4" and finished it out with a Saws-All. I decided to just set the watercloset back into the studs. I had 22" of space, and the cheapest toilet is 18 1/2" wide at the widest point. I'll just build shelves above the watercloset.

New question the floor is 1 3/8" thick, Do I need to use "special" screws to set the flange, or just use 1 1/2" plated/exterior screws.....?"
