This is Kaya. She's my new Chocolate Lab. I want to try and get her trained to retrieve birds for me. I am completely new to hunting with a dog! She is a little over a year old now. She follows me everywhere, retrieves toys, loves to run and is very obedient.
I need some help. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Send me a pm and I can show some of the drills I use. If you just got her you have to get the basics down before you can really train her. Sit, stay, heel, give etc. Put some actual bird wings on her training dummies unless you can get live birds. I recommend you get in contact with Baron from wetland retrievers. Good luck you have your hands full now. Bird season is over today so you have until Aug or Sept to get her ready.

Nice looking pup. The best advice I have is to join one of the clubs in your area. Then you will have both the advice and the help. You will probably meet some hunting buddies too. Folks will recommend some good books and there are trainers out there too. I don't have any retrievers but have taken two different pups out with the retriever clubs in Fairbanks and they were very helpful.
