  • Just back from a Kodiak sea duck hunt.

Just finished a seaduck hunt on Kodiak. I need help identifying this hen. Lots of harlequins.

Looks like a Goldeneye hen. The purple plumage is different. But.. the head shape, brown color head, and white on wing and the propensity of the species there leads me to believe its a Goldeneye.

That's what we guessed but it didn't have gold eyes.

hen golden eye, most likely barrows since you were near the ocean.

Is the light brown really there on the duck or is that the lighting. Definitely a goldeneye, but if that light brown is real I think you have something that may be crossbred.

That's what I was thinking....I've never seen a goldeneye that looks like that.

The light brown is there. It's what was throwing us off.
