A friend was out checking his rabbit snares last night and told me that they heard a couple coyotes howling up on the hill. This morning I took my Chesapeake out and paid them a visit. Right off the bat I cut 2 sets of tracks and found a good location with a great view down the valley. After about 5 seconds of calling, I notice a coyote is running full bore towards me from about 500 yards. It finally stopped at 8 paces when I think it must have seen my dog. I seriously thought it was going to run right into my lap. It turned to beat feet when my .22-.250 spoke out. I tried a different location on Saturday and cut 5 sets of tracks in one group. We're going to pay them a visit again tomorrow morning.
