  • Is it still good?

I just found a found a few pounds of celofane wrapped moose burger from my dads 05' hunt prepared by our butcher shop here in town at the bottom of my dads chest freezer. As long as it never thawed it ought to be good for the crock pot or something shouldn't it?

I would say throw it on the grill or in chili unless it is freezer burned.

I've cooked up game meat that was six years old, and it was still great. My parents used to have a knack for losing things in the bottom of the freezer (which is why I have two upright freezers in my own home), so old meat was a semi-regular thing. It keeps quite well, so give it a try.

I'd be thinkin' chili too. With a good sauce it should be dandy.

It should be tasty still, chili, spaghetti, tacos etc. anyhow, there is nothing to lose, give it a go. I have'nt been disappointed yet in the ocassional old package I find from time to time.

As long as it's not freezer burnt, it should be okay. I've eaten vacuum packed meat that was at least three years old and it tasted just like it died yesterday.
                  Now what ?

Dang! Now y'all got me thinking chili! Going to have to dig through the freezer and see what flavor of burger I can dig up.

I found a bunch of '06 moose burger in the bottom of my freezer. About 25# worth. I just had it made into breakfast sausage and the guy who made my sausage said the meat would have been just fine for any other use.

We regularly dig out stuff that is 10+ years old. As long as it hasn't been thawed out and was packaged okay, not problem. Throw it on the grill. Game meat is nothing like fish and will last a long time if treated properly.
