  • 348 WCF in the pre-war Deluxe Model 71 long tang with 98 A bolt peep. It used to be very popular in the 40s and 1950s.
Your eyes must be good and its a 125-150 yard rifle. Its a bear rifle, especially in the wildcats from the 348 cartridge.
Ask those who have one or used to hunt with one.

      • More case capacity, can push a heavier bullet. But yes .308 is the caliber.

Also note of info: Both are .30 Cal. ie.... .308 measurement between the "Lands", and a .30 measurement "Top of Land to Land", in other words this is how the "Rifling" in the Barrel is measured, which are actually called "Lands & Grooves" w= Rifling, there are also "Multiple" types of "Rifling-Methods" as well.

          • I'd agree with the .300 win mag. Enough power to do what has to be done as long as you put it in the right spot, but won't take your head off with recoil

I started this poll back in 2009, and listed 10 of the most widely used cartridges. I have explained numerous times that the polls in this forum allowed for only 10 cartridges, thus the reason why only ten were included. I have also mentioned that this poll's results match other surveys conducted by F&G, I believe, at one of the shooting ranges near anchorage. The article was published in one of the two NRA magazines back then.

I bet that if another poll is conducted in this forum today, the .30-06, .300WM, .338WM, and the 7mm RM will be near the top.
