Do-it-yourself-sheep
Bowhunter1,
(one hunter asks for sheep assistance with less than a dozen words....another guy asks for sheep guidance with slightly more that two dozen words. Dudes...verbalize!)
Twenty years ago I would say go to the Wrangells, either north side or south side.
But with the recently established "Becky K. Sheep Permit Area" that extends all the freaking way from Palmer to Glennallen, the Wrangells on all sides of the hard park are forever screwed-up. Where only a friend and I formerly hunted, now 6 or 8 new tags show up each year in every valley because hunters can no longer hunt Tazlina/Klutina Lake & Glaciers-Tonsina Lake-Matansuka Glacier-Kings Mt, Marcus Baker Glacier, Grasshopper, Metal & Friday Creeks.
No north to the Brooks Range now, for Sheep, Caribou, and Grizz combo hunts.
Call Coyote Air in Coldfoot. Spend money, whatever ya got, for the remote fly-in.

I don't post here much but I will say that ALL of my sheep hunting areas from the last 30 years are now gone because of this stupid &&%^$#& permit area... "Tazlina/Klutina Lake & Glaciers-Tonsina Lake-Matansuka Glacier-Kings Mt, Marcus Baker Glacier, Grasshopper, Metal & Friday Creeks". It really pisses me off.

BN2FSH,
I do understand your discomfort with the new "Becky K. sheep permit area".
Look at a map to realize how huge it really is, and feel the amps surge within.
And with the new, projected bonus point permit system, brother, you might get to hunt there another time within your lifetime!
Our BOG system works rather odd, at times.

basic advice...go where other sheep hunters are not. thats what they are all thinking...
the more you spend, the farther you walk, the harder you hunt, the better chance are you'll be away from other hunters and into sheep that are getting tapped into yet.Www.blackriverhunting.com
