Fake Velvet....
IMO does not even come close to looking real. From across the room, slightly, but up close, no way. Look at one first, before you send them off somewhere.
Can a taxidermist touch up a rag horn?

Research Manikins of Oregon will put a very durable synthetic velvet on antlers but its not cheap. I am having a sitka blacktail done and the 18" wide antlers are about 250.00. I believe there web address is www.rmi-online.com

Give Dave MacClannahan a call, Lone Wolf Taxidermy 696-3611 there in Eagle River, he can tell you yes or no. Knight's here in anchorage is another option, he does excellent work but takes awhile.

Can a taxidermist touch up a rag horn?
Does anybody know if a taxidermist can put velvet on a rag horn. I shot a caribou about a week ago and would like to make the horns look like they are in velvet. The bull was a rag horn and I like the velvelt look. If they can about how much am I looking at paying to get it done?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
