  • PWS Deer Hunting Technique

I was hoping someone could share some successful PWS deer hunting techniques/tactics with me for rifle hunting. I don't want to know your special place or island just some basic technique.

I am going to hunt from my boat in September, so too early to wait for the snow to push them down to the beaches.

Should I pull into a bay and glass until I see deer? Should I hike as high as I can, sit still in the same place and glass for deer? Should I try to cover LOTS of high territory, hiking and watching?

    What has worked for you??

I've succesfully hunted black bear for a couple years now in PWS, but I think that was different.

    Thanks,
    John

Move quiet and seldom, sit still for long periods, and call.

So the calling would be helpful for hunting in Sept. also???

I've never called for deer. What kind of call would I use? and how agressive should it be, since the rut isn't on yet?

The deer will be up high and I doubt if you will see many glassing from the boat. Cimb up high, and glass without moving too much. I've never tried calling but if you do and there are bears on the island you are hunting, be careful!
