  • If i had only 3 choices for hunting rounds in AK....

Ok folks, if I had a choice of only 3 different hunting cartridges in AK I'd choose.. 204 ruger, 30/06, and the 45/70. These rounds are good enuf for my hunts in the YK delta. What's your three choices for AK hunting?

(Came across something like this in another sight)

Only three.......I would start with a good bolt action 22LR, 243 Winchester and 338 WM. Other calibers that I would like to have (and do) would be a 223, 308 and 45-70.

223, .30-'06, and who cares, save this as my wildcard.

Pretty hard to beat this one. I'd have to say the same.

Me too..... I've got two out of the three, but have the 270 instead because it was a gift.......

God forbid....heck, I've even got more than three .30 cals....

                          Pressed for such constraints- I'd skip the .22LR altogether and go with a .308WIN, a .338WM and a 12ga.

If I did any duck or goose hunting, I'd go with the 12 Ga. But since most all of my bird hunting is grouse or ptarmigan I'd rather stick with the .410. Don't like shooting dinner to pieces.

The .22 is such a handy gun though and cheap plinking. But as hard as it's getting to be to find ammo, if I had to switch from the .22, I'd probably go to a .17 or .22 mag which fits my pistol. The .22 mag with birdshot works fine in the pistol for an occasional grouse when I'm deer hunting.
