Does anybody have any experience with taking a disabled person hunting up here? My father-in-law is paralyzed from chest down and wheelchair bound. Kind of limits what I can do to take him. I know it would be a dream of his to hunt a big game animal up here when he comes up. I looked into disabled vet permits but his injury wasn't active duty so don't think he qualifies. I am just racking my brain on what I think I might be able to do for him and thought I would ask what others have done. I have taken him deer and turkey hunting in lower 48 but wanted to see if I could get something figured out up here. Thanks for any in put!

Yes. I recalled a thread that pictured a wheelchair bound gentleman who connected with a blackie. I did a search and found it. Here is where I found it within the site: go to Alaska Hunting Forum, Alaska Hunting, 2006-2009 hunting photo galleries, stickie: 2008 Alaska hunting photos, post #109 by Dwhunter on 9/24/08.
Good luck!

This may be a bit of a stretch but I would talk to some folks about Adak and see if they could think of a feasible way for him to hunt caribou out there in January or February when the animals are close to town, possibly from an Argo? Bonus ptarmigan maybe too.

I'm wondering if you could hook up a caribou from a riverboat somewhere northeast of Kotzebue when the caribou are migrating. I know some of the locals will wait for caribou at known river crossing points, and when they show up it's not a difficult harvest. Finding a way out there might be a logistical challenge, but I've got to think he could do a hunt like that if you could arrange the transportation.

I believe you must be at least 70% disabled to shoot bear from a boat in PWS. The month of May would be an excellent time to do this hunt.27' Wooldridge Super Sport Offshore Pilothouse PRIME TIME!

There are moose hunts for wheel chair bond hunter in the Kenai refuse. This hunt is in the regulations, I have been along for some boat based black bear hunts and would not recommend them. Simply too hard to shoot from a boat pitching around IMHO we gave it up after a few misses. Baiting would be a better choice."I refuse to let the things I can't do stop me from doing the things I can"

I guess I didn't see the refuge wheelchair hunt in regs, I will have to look and see if I can find it. I imagine it would be draw so he would need to put in before the 15. He would qualify for shooting from a boat he is able to shoot from vehicles in lower 48. An Argo might be a good way to get him into bear baits maybe I need to look I to that more, except I do t have one but would look into getting one if it would allow him to get into areas. My main concern is balance as he has none would have have seat belt type system which he has on his wheelchair. He has a power chair but would get stuck lot up here do to skinny tires and lots of wet areas. Thanks keep them coming and if anybody has done anything like this up here please tell me about it!

Disabled hunts?
I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but it seems caribou are shot near the highway in unit 13 often, what about rigging a sidexside or Argo for that hunt? It would be draw for him if he's non-resident but there is at least 2 tags you could put in for that have good road access?
It might also be doable for him to shoot a caribou from a jet boat or air boat in unit 13?
